SpaceX Internships 2026

SpaceX is the most exciting aerospace company in the world, and its internship program reflects that intensity. SpaceX interns work on active flight hardware — Falcon 9 boosters, Dragon spacecraft, Starship prototypes, and Starlink satellites. The company hires 300–500 interns per session across software engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and mission operations. Positions are based at SpaceX's Hawthorne, CA headquarters, Starbase (Boca Chica, TX), Cape Canaveral, FL, and Redmond, WA (Starlink). SpaceX's pace is legendary — interns regularly witness rocket launches and may see their work fly on missions within weeks of completion.

$28–$42/hour

Program Highlights

1.

Interns earn $28–$42/hour depending on degree level and role. Housing is not provided, but Hawthorne and Starbase have intern housing communities.

2.

SpaceX interns work on flight-critical hardware and software — your code or design may literally fly to space during your internship

3.

Intern sessions run Spring (January–May), Summer (May–August), and Fall (September–December), each 12+ weeks

4.

Interns attend live launch viewings at Cape Canaveral and receive behind-the-scenes factory tours of the Falcon and Starship production lines

5.

SpaceX's flat culture means interns can ask questions directly to senior VP-level engineers and occasionally interact with Elon Musk

Typical Internship Roles at SpaceX

Software Engineer Intern — flight software, ground systems, Starlink networking, or mission control automation

Aerospace Engineer Intern — structural analysis, aerodynamics, and trajectory design for Falcon and Starship

Mechanical Engineer Intern — propulsion systems, vehicle structures, thermal protection, and mechanisms design

Manufacturing Engineer Intern — production line optimization for rockets and spacecraft at Hawthorne or Starbase

Avionics Engineer Intern — circuit design, embedded systems, and sensor integration for flight vehicles

Launch Operations Intern — supporting Falcon 9 and Starship launches at Cape Canaveral and Starbase

Application Tips

  • Apply at spacex.com/careers. Positions are posted year-round, but summer roles fill fastest — apply by October for best chances.

  • SpaceX interviews are deeply technical. For engineering roles, expect questions about specific projects you've built and fundamental physics/engineering principles.

  • Hands-on experience is valued above all else. Highlight rocketry clubs, Formula SAE, satellite teams, or any hardware you've physically built and tested.

  • SpaceX moves fast in hiring — some candidates receive offers within 2 weeks of applying. Keep your phone on and check email daily after submitting.

  • U.S. person status (citizen or permanent resident) is required for most roles due to ITAR export control regulations.
